How do I avoid COLD WATER and Unexpected BIG BILLS?

The last thing I want is the hot water system dying.

Got any advice? Every hot water tank that’s more than five years old should be serviced to test & check the sacrificial anode. Once the anode is worn out it stops protecting the tank from corrosion. The one item that can actually double the lifespan of a typical hot water storage cylinder is the sacrificial anode.

So that puts the tank on death row? Have a look at the photo to see what happens. We were called out recently to a property at North Haven to look at an older hot water system. We found the anode completely gone, leaving the tank and its components vulnerable to corrosion and reducing the life of the overall system.

So how does a sacrificial anode work? Like the name implies, it sacrifices itself for the good of the system. It is made of a material that reacts with minerals and impurities that would otherwise corrode the tank’s internals. The anode slowly deteriorates, which is why it should be inspected every five or so years, especially with Adelaide’s water quality.

So should I definitely put it on my “to-do” list? Book in a service with us today. While there our technician will also test that the whole system is working properly, including the pressure relief valve, thermostat, temperature levels and flow rate.
