High Feed-in Tariff Adelaide
What is Feed-in Tariff?
A feed in tariff (FiT) is a small credit rebate that households receive for any excess electricity produced by a solar system or other small-scale generator. For example, unless you have a solar battery storage, any solar power produced by your solar panels must be immediately used or it will feed into the shared electricity grid for other properties to use. For each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity that a household’s solar system exports to the electricity grid, that property will receive a feed-in tariff of a few cents, usually between 7 and 16 cents per kWh.
Who pays the Tariff?
Feed-in tariffs are not paid out cash in hand, rather they apply as a deduction on your regular bill. A high feed-in tariff can help drastically reduce what you pay for electricity, that’s why it’s so important to shop around for solar deals.
In fact, it’s your energy provider the one who pays you for the excess electricity you produce. The government does not pay the tariffs, they only pay the rebate. As there are several utility companies dealing with the tariffs, you will find there are also different terms and rates for different companies.

Solar Replacements and High Feed-in Tariff
When a solar panel system fails and needs to be replaced, we will analyse your situation, then provide you with the best option going forward. Our solar electricians will carefully select the correct parts, inverters, and panels, which in turn will further optimise your system, but not affect your high FiT. If you are still receiving a high power bill, sometimes replacing your system with a new larger solar system will counter the benefits of retaining your high feed-in tariff.
Sharpe Services have formed positive relationships with many solar panel and inverter suppliers to ensure that we can provide you with the correct replacement system
Upgrading your solar system when on a high Feed-in Tariff
Upgrading your solar system when still on a high feed-in tariff will lead to you losing your tariff, however, if you are considering an upgrade while on the high feed-in tariff, it’s possible that you are not happy with the performance and rewards of the current system.
Sharpe Services is in the right position to advise you going forward, and can provide you with the correct solution to either making the most out of your solar system while on the high feed-in tariff or will show you the benefits of upgrading your solar panel system to ensure that you receive the maximum return on investment.
So if you are lucky enough to have a high feed-in tariff you need to be careful in selecting the correct certified solar electricians to advise and work on your system so that you don’t risk losing your high feed-in tariff. Inexperienced tradespeople sometimes unwittingly fit components that result in the system producing more energy than allowed under the original tariff agreement, which may result in the loss of the high feed-in tariff.
