Voltage Surge Incident in Adelaide

As reported on one of Adelaide’s leading current affairs programs, one tree branch can inadvertently cause thousands of dollars of electrical damage.

A falling branch from a gum tree being professionally trimmed, struck a powerline and caused a power-cut to 2000 homes in North Eastern Suburbs.

Unfortunately, 65 homes in the vicinity suffered significant electrical damage, such as burnt-out switchboards, ruined appliances and faulty air-conditioning units.

Many homeowners were left without compensation as insurers refused to pay for any damages until either the distribution company or the tree surgeon admitted fault.

Talk to an Accredited Electrician today for ways to protect your home from potentially devastating power surges.

Risks from Adelaide’s Solar Systems

There are over 170,000 solar installations in South Australia. With the increasing number of solar panels comes risks to both Adelaide’s power network and your home.

Our electricity system was designed to be fed by a few large powerstations, not thousands of Solar PV panels. It has become increasingly difficult to balance the network, especially when some houses on a street are shifting electricity onto the grid and some are not (no solar power).

Distribution companies warn of the possibility of power surges caused by solar cells feeding into the system, and this will get worse as more solar panels are installed.

Voltage spikes can seriously damage you appliances & electrics, so talk to Sharpe today about the options to protect your home.
