There is no doubt we will get another long, hot summer. One person not worrying too much about heat waves and possible power cuts is Chris, of Greenwith.

“I’ve got the pack,” he says. “Solar, battery and now an Odyssey ventilation system.”

His Odyssey Intelligent Hybrid Ventilation was installed in January 2018 and really came into its own as last summer dragged on into autumn.

“I was able to set up the house for the day, by drawing cooler night air in and pushing out the hot air from the previous day,” he says. “It meant I didn’t have to use the reverse-cycle air-conditioner as much as in previous years, which was a real cost saving.”

“I feel it helped us survive a very hot summer.”

Odyssey is an automated air-exchange system that is easy to fit to most houses. It helps prevent heat build-up by replacing hot, stale inside air with fresh cool air from outside.

During summer this means the air-conditioner usually is not needed at night.

The reverse applies during winter, where stale, moisture-laden air is replaced with fresh, dry outside air during sunny days.

Another benefit is reduced building condensation and Odyssey gets a tick of approval from the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice Program, for those suffering asthma and allergies.

It can cost as little as $35 a year to run.

“I felt the Odyssey system was the finishing touch to our renewable energy plan of solar and battery,” says Chris. “I can control the temperature of the whole building. That stuffy, still-air feeling is gone.

“It was sensible to get the Odyssey installed and it performed very well.”
