When Fiona’s old ducted reverse-cycle air-conditioner started failing it was time for a modern replacement.

The trouble was finding a suitable unit for her two-storey townhouse in Kent Town.

Energy Rating Systems come across these scenarios all the time and have a range of heating-cooling systems to suit any application.

“It was a problem-solving exercise to get one that would fit the confined space,” she says. “ERS put a lot of effort into getting the right one and it’s been a very positive experience.”

Fiona says the difference is like night and day.

“The new unit is quieter, more efficient and easier to use,” she says.

The system operates over three zones. Two are upstairs, where the bedrooms and bathroom are, and the third in the downstairs living area.

Fiona says two noticeable differences are the quietness of the system’s fans and the short time it takes from start-up to changing a room’s temperature. The old system took over 10 minutes to begin operating well enough to make a difference to comfort levels in her property.

Fiona also noticed a reduction in running costs from just the first power bill she received after the install.

The latest generation of air-conditioners run quieter, use 40 per cent less power and have smart technology, such as action-activated sensors and wi-fi control via a smart phone or computer. So you can get your property cooling or heating before you arrive home.

With 45 percent of a typical power bill going on heating and cooling, it makes sense to consider upgrading.

Another bonus is that the latest battery technology is compatible with new air-conditioners, further increasing your savings on energy costs.
