Gas Space Heaters
Gas Space Heaters supply, install and service:
When it comes to supplementary heating in the winter, space heaters are among the most popular heating systems, providing a low-cost, easy-to-use device that effectively warms up small spaces. Gas is an efficient heating fuel, producing far less greenhouse gases than electricity or solid fuel heaters. Gas space heating is also great for families! Power flues are safe for children, with no exposed hot surfaces to burn little fingers and no fumes being released into the house.
Sharpe Services is available now to supply, install, and service a gas space heater in your home.

Gas Space Heaters – Adelaide
A gas heater is a space heater used to heat a room or outdoor area by burning natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, propane or butane. Indoor household gas heaters can be broadly categorized in one of two ways: flued or non-flued, or vented and unvented.
TYPES of Gas Space Heaters
Space Heater Flued
Flued gas heaters burn gas to generate heat and use a flue to carry the exhaust gases away. You can get either flued gas space heaters or flued gas fireplaces. There are both natural gas and LPG flued gas heaters. Sharpe Gas fitters know how to install a flued gas heater and can quote you on the flued gas heater installation cost.
Non-Flued Gas Heater / Portable
Unflued gas heaters have no flue and discharge the combustion gases and water vapour straight into the room. Most unflued gas heaters can be moved between rooms, as they have a gas hose that plugs into a floor or wall bayonet socket. Some unflued gas heaters are fixed in place to the wall.
Maintenance and Services of Gas Heaters
Gas Space Heaters should have maintenance done regularly to ensure that they run smoothly and safely.
Gas heaters need to be professionally installed and serviced by a trained and qualified gasfitter. An unsafe heater can cause a house fire or pollute your home with dangerous fumes including carbon monoxide. Having your gas heater serviced at a minimum of every two years by a qualified gasfitter, can help keep your family safe.
Professional servicing, including inspection of the flue or chimney, is recommended. Get your heater serviced if:
- it has not been serviced for two years.
- there is a yellow or sooty flame (unless it is a decorative gas log fire).
- the pilot light goes out unexpectedly, or ‘pops’ or ‘bangs’ when lighting.
- there are signs of heat damage such as discoloration of the walls or heater panels.
- the walls become too hot to touch while the heater is on.
- there are soot stains around the heater.
- immediately if there is any sign of trouble.
The term “flued” refers to the fact that the combustion gases generated when the gas is burnt are directed out of your home by means of a flued gas heater pipe (gas fixed flued heater) through the wall or ceiling. As a result, there are no emissions in your home with flued gas heaters (flued LPG gas heaters).
Care should be taken when using unflued (flueless) gas heaters if the family includes very young, unborn, elderly or individuals with some medical conditions, as they may be more sensitive to the emissions.
However, for the majority of people, unflued gas heaters are quite safe when you follow all of the manufacturer’s safety instructions, including providing adequate ventilation.
Energy Efficiency & Operating Costs
Portable gas heaters (unflued gas heaters) are more efficient than flued gas heaters for the home because some of the heat is lost through the flue. The typical Star Ratings for portable gas heaters are from 5.8 to 5.9 Stars, meaning that they are about 90% efficient in converting the gas to usable heat.
Whats size Gas Heater do I need?
If you buy too small a heater, it will not be able to adequately heat the intended area.
Selecting a heater that is too large will cost you extra money and oversizing can be unsafe.
A number of things need to be considered when determining your heater sizing:
- The volume of the area to be heated including consideration of ceiling height.
- The climate zone that you live in.
- The physical features of your home including wall & ceiling insulation, window coverings and carpeting.
- The kW output of the gas heater, not to be confused with the gas Mj input.
All types of gas heaters should be serviced a minimum of every two years by a licenced gasfitter and tested for carbon monoxide spillage. This includes all central heating units, space heaters, wall units and gas log fires. Only use a licensed gasfitters who have completed training on detecting and correcting risks of carbon monoxide spillage.
