Get fired up – Take charge of your switchboard safety

Your household’s electrical safety starts with the switchboard but many don’t meet current industry standards. As well as the risk of electrocution, too many house fires are caused by an electrical fault.

If your house if more than a few years old and you don’t know if it has ever been inspected, call in one of our expert electricians. It’s also worth having any appliance that is older than five years examined.
We can do a complete review of your entire household electrical system, using thermal imaging cameras to check wiring and components hidden behind walls without the need to disturb anything.

It’s affordable peace of mind, especially after such an extreme winter. We got many calls to deal with switchboard issues but storm damage can have long-lasting effects.

Switchboard standards have been upgraded in recent years so it pays to get a licensed electrician to confirm you have the latest type of circuit breakers and the best quality safety switches.

The main safety switch is a life-saver that keeps watch over the house 24/7. Also called an RCD, it detects that an electrical current is flowing down an unexpected path and activates in an instant to prevent a person being electrocuted.

Older switchboards often only have circuit breakers, which activate when the circuit is overloaded and so don’t act quickly enough to prevent electrocution.
We recommend a combined circuit breaker-safety switch (also called an RCBO) be installed to cover a maximum of two circuits on your switchboard.

Apart from the safety aspect, it also means that if a household appliance trips a safety switch, your entire power supply isn’t lost.
