Make Cooktops Safe Again
How Safe Is Your Cooktop?
Is there a delay before the gas burner ignites? Is the heat consistent from your electric cooktop?
Whilst there are risks involved with any setup, it’s advisable to know the hazards of each system and the importance of maintaining your investment.
At Sharpe Services we proudly service and install cooktop and stoves for hundreds of families across South Australia. During this process we see a lot of disreputable and quite dodgy work either carried out by landlords or previous owners. This combined with very old units can lead to potentially fatal consequences.
Gas cooktop issues
One example of how it never pays to assume a household appliance, such as a stove or oven has been installed correctly was a DIY gas cooktop installation we discovered during a service callout.
To our horror, we realised there was no regulator fitted to the supply line. As well, the unit was connected to the gas supply using several non-compliant fittings. A regulator ensures the exact amount of gas is being delivered safely to the cooktop. It is a vital part of the system and its safety.
In extreme cases, incorrect gas pressure can lead to incomplete combustion, producing carbon monoxide, a dangerous and potentially fatal gas.
Electric cooktop issues
As with all electrical work, it needs to be done by suitably qualified and experienced licensed technicians. Faulty wiring, bad installation and issues at the switchboard can all point to serious and dangerous issues with your cooktop. Minor cracks in your induction glass top can expose electrical components, leading to the risk of electric shock or fire.
Sharpe Services technicians quickly fixed these nightmare scenarios and are ready to help you now to ensure everything is working safely and efficiently at your place.
