Killer Cooktops On The Menu
How safe is your gas cooktop? Is there a delay before the burner ignites? Is the flame burning the correct colour of blue? Do you have a carbon-monoxide detector installed incase of a potentially fatal gas leak?
With current world conditions, Easter Holidays and the cooler weather keeping families, the elderly and children at home more than ever, gas safety has never been more important. And one of the most overlooked areas is the gas cooktop.
Sharpe Services has years of experience in maintaining and repairing all type of gas appliances. Over the years we have seen and fixed several “worst case scenarios”, which were accidents waiting to happen.
Many householders assume that because the gas cooktop is working all is good. This may not necessarily be the case. One example of how it never pays to assume a household appliance, such as a stove, oven, hot water or heater, has been installed correctly was a dodgy DIY gas cooktop installation we discovered during a service callout.
To our horror, we realised there was no regulator fitted to the supply line. As well, the unit was connected to the gas supply using several non-compliant fittings. A regulator ensures the exact amount of gas is being delivered safely to the cooktop. It is a vital part of the system and its safety. Running without one is as crazy as driving around in a car that’s leaking petrol all over the exhaust. Of course, all this was hidden away below the bench top, unseen and potentially lethal.
Sharpe Services technicians quickly fixed this nightmare scenario and are ready to help you now to ensure everything is working safely and efficiently at your place.
