Get Into The Habit
Federal Government Cheaper Home Battery Rebate – What You Need to Know Now
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program (CHBP) officially launched on July 1st, 2025, and is now live. This initiative offers significant upfront discounts on home battery systems for homeowners, renters, and small businesses.
How Much Can You Save?
Eligible households and businesses can now access:
30% or more off battery-only systems, with typical savings ranging from $3,630 to $7,860. Up to $372 per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery storage capacity. This is part of a $2.3 billion expansion of the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
Solar Rebates Still Available
The CHBP works alongside the existing Government Solar Rebate (SRES), which continues to reduce solar system costs by 40% or more, with savings between $1,700 and $6,800.
System Size Requirements To qualify:
Battery systems must have a usable capacity between 5kWh and 50kWh. Solar systems must be between 5kW and 30kW for residential installations. There are no caps per installation, meaning you can install larger systems if needed—but each rebate can only be claimed once per property until 2030.
Why Act Now?
The CHBP is a win-win: it lowers your upfront investment and helps you become part of Australia’s low-cost, renewable energy future. With energy prices fluctuating and climate concerns growing, there’s never been a better time to invest in solar and battery storage.
