Game Over For Your Evap

Our evaporative cooling system is struggling these days. Should I just bite the bullet and replace it?

We often get asked this as many units we work on are 10 to 20 years old. Parts are available for the common brands but if a unit is old and doesn’t cool like it used to, replacement is a good option.

So what are symptoms that indicate system replacement?

If your evap is around 15 years old and struggles to cool it’s probably game over. The same applies if an expensive component, such as a motor, water pump or control unit, fails on an older evap. Another issue could be the original unit is actually undersized and is running on high all the time.

And what are some issues that can be fixed without replacing the entire unit?

Leaking water usually requires a new dump valve or float valve. The cost for these starts from $150 supplied and installed. Another issue could be the solenoid, which also controls water flow. We can supply and install one from $215.

How efficient are the new systems?

Technology has marched on over the past 15 years and current evap coolers run quieter and use less water and electricity. They also have more sophisticated control systems and longer warranties. We can supply and install the best replacement for your situation.
