There Are Many Varying Opinions Regarding Ceiling Fans

What’s your take on it?

The CSIRO has done a lot of research into ceiling fans. It concludes that as well as costing a fraction of running air-conditioning for the same room, the stream of blowing air over an occupant can reduce the temperature of the air next to them by 2-3C.

What rooms do they work in best?

Without a doubt the bedroom. With the cooler night air coming in through a partly-opened window a fan should be all you need to be comfortable if you choose the correct-sized blade.

And what’s that?

For a typical-sized bedroom it would be a 48in blade.

What are the quietest fans to run?

Ones with rattan or wooden blades. We find four-blade units are the most efficient.

Do they cost much to install?

We can do a typical installation for around $350 including the fan unit.
