The importance of regular servicing of heating and cooling systems was brought home bluntly this week at Lockleys.

Jason, one of Sharpe Services’ air-conditioning specialists, was called to a house where the reverse-cycle air-conditioner stopped blowing hot air.

He quickly sourced the fault to a failed compressor, a key component of any air-conditioner.

The compressor wears out over years, especially if the unit is switched on and off a lot. As it wears its ability to compress the refrigerant vital for air-conditioning becomes weaker and it uses more power to compensate.

In extreme cases complete failure can ignite a fire within the unit.

This is why it is important to get your air-conditioner checked regularly both for performance and safety.
