SERVICE, QUALITY & HIGH STANDARDS

The last thing you want as we head into the hottest part of the year is a reverse cycle air-conditioning problem. Especially with a house full of children home for the school holidays.

So the first thing to do (annually or if there’s any issue), is to book in a service with Sharpe. Our technicians will check the entire system to ensure it’s operating at peak efficiency. Our detailed written report will give you peace of mind.

Most systems don’t fail completely but slowly lose their cooling performance….

If your system stops blowing cold air it could indicate a problem with the thermostat sensor, which measures the temperature of the air passing through the system. It requires a licensed electrician to diagnose and repair or replace this.

Another issue could be a dirty filter that has become blocked. This often leads to ice forming inside the air conditioner. You can usually solve this problem yourself. Simply turn off the unit for a few hours until the ice melts. Depending on where your air conditioner is mounted you might want to lay towels down to collect the dripping water.
Once the ice is completely melted, remove and clean the filter, then dry and replace it. This should fix the problem but if the unit keeps freezing, call Sharpe for expert help.

Sometimes the air conditioner won’t turn on. Surprisingly, this is often just a case of the batteries in the remote control going flat. If the batteries are fine, check your fuse box to see if the circuit breaker or safety switch has been tripped. If it has, turn the breaker or switch back on and see if the unit works.
If it trips again, don’t try to reset the switch but call Sharpe to investigate the problem.

Bad smells in air conditioners are a symptom of neglected maintenance. It could be a blocked drainage pipe that has caused mould to form because the unit hasn’t had regular cleaning and servicing.

Reverse-cycle air-conditioners can sometime make a loud banging sound. This could be a fan belt that has jumped off its pulleys or a failed bearing in the unit’s motor. If this happens turn the system off to prevent more damage being caused and call Sharpe.

Finally, check that the outside fan is working. This transfers the heat from your house to outside. If the fan isn’t working, the unit’s compressor may overheat and trip the safety switch. The worst case scenario is internal damage to the compressor.
