A day in the life of battery power

There is a lot of talk about household battery power but not a lot of people understand exactly how a typical system works.

Adelaide’s Sharpe Energy-Hub has all the major brands on display at its Port Road, Thebarton, showroom.

Among them are Sonnen’s modular battery system, which can be added to as a growing household’s needs change.

Here’s how a typical sonnenBatterie system works every day with rooftop solar to cover around 75 per cent of a family’s yearly needs.

The solar panels start producing energy just after dawn, but the output won’t be enough to cover all the early-morning energy demand. Here the sonnenBatterie bridges the gap with power stored from the day before.

Midday and early afternoon sees the peak of the day’s energy production, coinciding with the lowest demand for power. This means most of the generated energy is being stored.

The day’s highest demand for energy starts in the early evening, when the solar panels are winding down production as the sun sets.

Here the sonnenBatterie comes into full effect, powering the household through the darkness.

Sharpe supplies and installs Sonnen’s full range. This starts at 5kW and can be added in blocks of 2.5kW up to 15kW.

“The most important consideration is matching the size of the battery with the household’s demand and that involves having the correct-sized rooftop solar system,” says a Sharpe Energy-Hub consultant.

That’s why our consultations always start by analysing current energy use and balancing that with future needs.”

Generous government subsidies make battery storage a viable financial decision and Sharpe Energy-Hub consultants can guide buyers through the process.

All Sharpe Energy-Hub systems are installed and serviced by Sharpe’s own technicians, not subcontractors, to give reassurance regarding warranties and guarantees.

This is backed by the experience and knowledge of 39 years in business.
